We were lucky enough to book our trip during the Camp's annual Kid's Camp that the owners host for family and friends.
All the trappings of a real, old-school summer camp. At least from what I've read/heard about, never actually having been to summer camp.
The kids did crafts.
And then, the feats of skill!
First off, the sack race (yes, with real, vintage potato sacks). G was prepped, she was very excited. She reeeeallllly wanted to win a ribbon (which you really had to win - 1st, 2nd, or 3rd - none of that 'participation' business).
She tried really hard, that kid.
But finished dead last. Both times.
Not fazed. She moved on to the next event - tug o' war. Good, I thought, she has a 50/50 chance of getting a ribbon out of this one. I quickly filled her in on the general idea and she got in line.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Next up, the three-legged race. She was paired with a nice 6-year old. I didn't have much hope.
But somehow, they placed third! They fell a lot, but kept at it. I think it was because they held hands the whole time.
We took a break during the archery portion. I thought that best. We went back to the cabin to cool off, J was napping. Camps are good nap-inducers.
Later, by the lake there were songs and s'mores around the campfire.
When it was dark there were lightening bugs and fireworks. Both of which I don't think my kids had ever seen. Note: J does NOT like fireworks.
So off to bed he went, while Eric and G caught a bit of the movie set up outside - appropriately 'The Parent Trap'. (On Sundays this turns into an outdoor chapel where they hold a 'mass in the grass'.)
While I enjoyed the scenery from the porch.
