batty

Here they were enjoying their lunch outside, before we knew there was an unexpected visitor among us.

Going to open the big umbrella, I noticed something on the table. Why would there be mouse droppings on the table?

Maybe there is a mouse in the umbrella. We had been gone a week.

Well, no. It wasn't a mouse. It was a bat. At least I opened the umbrella slowly anticipating a mouse to fall out. This guy didn't fall, he flapped around and scared the bejesus out of me.
After my wits were restored, my first thought was: I need a picture! Everyone wants to see a bat!

Second, after our last unwelcome backyard visitor last year,

it's probably better if I take care of this before Eric gets home.

Well there was some flying in circles, opening and closing umbrellas multiple times, more flying in circles. A showing of tiny, very vampire-like teeth. Ushering a child indoors. Oops, there's a kid still under the table. More flying in circles. Then our guest was gone. "To find his mommy", of course.
