luck of the draw

The boys and I ate lunch with G at her school today. We didn't eat in a cafeteria (they don't have one), rather in a restored 1885 barn. And it wasn't standard elementary school fare (they don't have that, either), but a special lunch, prepared by chefs and parents, with ingredients from the school's gardens.

The kindergarteners harvested the tomatoes and thyme for the lunch.

It was pretty tasty. And I got to eat a hot meal someone else prepared for me :)

But for all the environmental focus and opportunity to eat a nice lunch six times a year, I'm really glad (let's be honest - a little bit relieved) to have some basis that they also excel at acedemics too. It was announced yesterday that Prairie Crossing Charter School is a Recipient of the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for excellence in education!
